I get many clients that ask me where they can buy or rent fishing tackle in Cancun. Here in Cancun things are not quite the same as the States or Canada so my first recommendation will be to buy or bring your gear from home.
If you want to rent a rod and reel in Cancun you’ll find yourself quickly out of luck as all marinas and stores either only sell equipment or use it strictly on their charters. In the Cancun hotel zone there are no tackle shops whatsoever and as much as we would love to have a Basspro or Cabelas here, this is just not the case.
On our website you can easily find out what to bring for:
If you don’t want to bring your own gear there are a few options and although limited there are a few fishing shops in Cancun that sell gear suitable for some DIY fishing in Cancun.
Recently opened this store is conveniently located in the Cancun Hotelzone this store has offshore and inshore fishing equipment and apart from that diving gear and boat parts. It is one of the biggest stores in Cancun and easy to get to as you can hop on any bus going downtown and get off the bus at the hotel Temptations.

The most economical way to get to these stores is to take any local bus from the hotel zone to downtown ( about 11.5 Pesos or 70 US cents) and once you get downtown just flag down a taxi and show them the addresses given above. A downtown taxi should cost no more than (70 pesos or 3 to 5 US Dollars).
